“CAMPING FOR ALLAH”
New DVD explores what goes on in a Muslim youth camp?
ANAHEIM , CALIF. (September 21, 2007) -- A new documentary film from Zahra Pictures entitled Camping for Allah was released on DVD for all to be able to answer the question: what really goes on in a Muslim youth camp?
After 9/11, many began to question the idea of a Muslim youth camp. There was fear that these camps would train terrorists and teach young Muslims hatred towards Christians and Jews, even here in America.
Producer and Director Ahmad Zahra, follows a group of young American Muslims who travel to a Muslim camp in California and explores their religious, social and political views. Through their eyes, we see them take hikes, swim, and attend prayer sessions throughout the day while sharing with us their thoughts. And, when night comes, the camp gets dead silent for an inside look at a tradition in the Muslim religion rarely seen by outsiders' eyes, the Muslim Burial Ritual.
In addition to this 35 Min documentary, the DVD includes over 75 minutes of extra features that are both informative and entertaining that explore further the issues of what happens on a daily basis at these camps, the students' views after 9/11, the controversial issue of wearing or not wearing the Hijab (Islamic dress code for women) and the full “Muslim Burial Ritual” Scene..
The film features Imam Sayed Moustafa Al-Qazwini, a renowned Muslim scholar who has been featured in many programs on the History Channel, Discovery Channel, PBS, CNN, NPR, among many others and currently serves as the head of the Islamic Educational Center of Orange County.
Arab-American filmmaker Ahmad Zahra was born in Damascus, Syria and raised in both Syria and the United Kingdom. After acquiring a Medical Degree from Damascus University, Ahmad went on to study Film, his first passion, at UCLA.
